The city of Mood is located in the Khorasan province in Northeastern Iran. Archaeological excavations in the southern part of the historical city near the city of Birjand, revealed ancient pottery dating from the Parthian dynasty (248 BC-224 BC). Historical artifacts were also found that date from prehistoric times to the Safavid dynasty. The manufacture of carpets and production of saffron made the city world-famous. Most Mood carpets are of high quality, made of thin, soft wool with fine and shapely designs. Mood carpets are woven with an asymmetrical knot. Bright blue and red with beige for contrast are usually used. In their designs flowers and medallions are typically used. The artisans often weave the Mir design and the design called the garden(i.e., repeated squares decorated with trees, weeping willows, flowers, deer and birds).
